I had the pleasure of meeting Evelyn Davis just once a few years ago at the Junior Girls Tournament. What a pleasure it was. And I was impressed with how gracious she was to all the girls and their parents, and excited by their success. She sat under a tree, reminisced with all her old friends, and I think totally enjoyed her day with her former colleagues. It was a fun experience to be with her that day. I know she will be missed by all the IWGA ladies and by all those lives she touched. My condolences to her son and all her family.
All the thoughtful and loving tributes to Evelyn Davis just scratch the surface on who she really was. I joined the IWGA Board in 1996 eager to help and learn all about golf. I learned quickly that you didn’t need a rule book when Evelyn was around. She was so kind and generous with her time helping us — learn the rules. I might add — she was always patient with all our questions — “but Evelyn, what if the player forgot to mark her spot on the green and then putt “near” where she thought the ball had been. Now what?” I don’t think she ever missed a tournament or board meeting in all the years she was active. The IWGA was so fortunate to have her as our mentor and friend. I’m glad I could be part of that group. Evelyn, here’s to you! Rest in Peace! Joann Anderson
50 years of dedication to the IWGA players and fellow board members. . . We are all better for her presence in our lives. I feel so fortunate to have been one of the lucky ones who knew and admired her! Pam Keeling
Although I only met Evelyn in 2000 when I joined the IWGA Board, I know she was instrumental in making the Illinois Women’s Golf Association the great organization it is today! She was full of life, always had a welcoming smile, always willing to do whatever was needed, and always made you feel like one of her best friends. Her love for her family made her eyes sparkle whenever she shared some of those special memories. I’m so thankful to have had Evelyn in my life. Lynne Frary
I was privileged and honored to serve on the IWGA Board with Evelyn. She was a mentor and friend to so many of us as we joined the “green ladies”. She was kind and gentle – but could call a tough ruling when needed. She was a real treasure and touched the lives of many.
Evelyn was such a wonderful mentor and friend. When I joined the IWGA Board she was there to offer always encouraging words and gentle advice. I loved riding on “rules” with her and hearing stories of past tournaments and particularly about her family of which she was very proud. She will be missed.
