President’s Message

As we begin a new decade, the IWGA continues to make changes to address the current golfing environment.  We will be implementing a new format for the State Amateur Championship. We feel this change will benefit players and bring a high-quality field to Pine Meadow in June. In recent years our Junior Championship has been outstanding. We are happy to be able to alternate between two fine venues for this tournament in Aldeen (Rockford) and this year’s site, Hickory Point in Decatur. Our Senior tournament is returning to Soangetaha Country Club in Galesburg, which has proved in the past to be a perfect course for this championship.

Along with the three Championship we run during the year, it is our mission to continue to support the game of golf for girls and women of Illinois. Through a generous donation from Helen Spencer, a former participant in our championships, we now will be giving two, two thousand dollar scholarships to outstanding high school senior girls. With donations obtained from individuals and clubs for our Victory Fund, we were able to increase the number of grants awarded to college women’s golf teams this past year. We also help our USGA state team qualifiers, along with supporting veteran’s programs and medical research.

There are numerous ways to contribute to the IWGA. You can donate your time at any of our Championships. You can contribute to the Victory Fund directly or via the John Deere Classic Birdies for Charity program or you can offer to be the liaison between your golf club or organization and the IWGA.

We hope you will consider these opportunities. The IWGA is a labor of love for the game of golf. If you share our vision and passion, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us for more information.
I am looking forward to sharing with you an outstanding year of golf and friendship.

Gail Hannam,
IWGA President
