2011 Inductee

2011 Hall of Fame Inductee:   Marlene Miller

Marlene Miller of Lake Bluff, Illinois, was inducted into the IWGA Hall of Fame on Tuesday, September 20, at Oakwood Country Club, Coal Valley, Illinois, during the 42nd Annual IWGA Senior Amateur Championship Tournament banquet.    Joining Marlene in celebrating her accomplishments were her husband, Wendell, daughters Julie and Muffet and her granddaughter.  

Some of Marlene’s many accomplishments include the following:

  • IWGA Board member 1974 to present
  • IWGA Board President 1983-1984
  • Co-founder of the IWGA State Junior Golf Tournament,1979
  • Co-founder of the IWGA Julia Dodds Scholarship Award,1992
  • Women’s Western Golf Association Director, 3 years
  • USGA Junior Girls’ Committee, 1987-1994
  • USGA Women’s Committee, 1994-2000
  • Coach of Lake Forest High School Girls’ Golf Team 1977 to present

 

Marlene has received many distinguished awards including the following:

  • Chicago District Golf Association Distinguished Service Award, 1994
  • Illinois Coaches Hall of Fame, 1995
  • Lake County Hall of Fame, 2002
  • Winona, Minnesota, High School Hall of Fame, 2003
  • Chicagoland Hall of Fame, 2005 

 

Marlene’s successes include many on the golf course:

  • Minnesota Publinx Championship, 1951, Runner-up 1950
  • NCAA Women’s Medalist, 1954 (Univ. of Minnesota Golden Gophers)
  • Minnesota Amateur Champion:  1954, 1955, 1960
  • Chicago District Women’s Golf Association Champion, 1967
  • Illinois Tournament of Champions, 1983
  • Lake County Champion:  1984 and 1987
  • Northern Illinois Champion, 1988
  • Illinois Senior Women’s Champion:  1987 and 1988
