Kelly Sterling Wins Illinois State Women’s Amateur Championship

Kelly Sterling led wire to wire in the championship match to defeat a worthy challenger in Kelly Anderson 3 and 2, and win the 84th  Annual Illinois State Women’s Amateur Championship held at Pine Meadow Golf Club. Kelly fought her way through matches that included several highly-ranked competitors including the defending champion, Lauren Chappell and the medalist Kelly Anderson en route to being crowned champion today.

Kelly will be returning to the University of Illinois – Chicago in the fall where she plays for the team. She is from Mokena and was a gracious winner.  Her name will be engraved on the trophy and she will become a part of golf history in Illinois. To make the day even more special, Frank and Pat Jemsek, of Jemsek Golf were on hand to help award the trophy.

3rd Flight – Miranda Mocklow
4th Flight – Danielle Ellis
5th Flight – Alexandra Brue

Congratulations to all who played, while there can only be one winner in golf, it is hard to say that anyone who played lost either!

The Illinois Women’s Golf Association (IWGA) would like to thank Jemsek Golf and Pine Meadow Golf Club for their assistance in making the 84th running of this tournament a success.  The expertise and professionalism of Dennis Johnson and the Pine Meadow staff made our jobs much easier.
