The IWGA is an all-volunteer organization, and all monies raised, including membership fees, are devoted to advancing golf opportunities for women and girls in Illinois and supporting the spirit of amateur golf. These opportunities include:
(1) the running of three State Championships: Girls’ State Championship, Women’s Amateur Championship, and the Senior Women’s Amateur Championship
(2) the annual $2,000 Julia Dodds Award, given to a high school senior girl in recognition of scholarship, leadership, sportsmanship and sportsmanship, to defray college expenses
(3) Grants to women’s golf teams at Illinois colleges and universities (nine grants of $2000 each were awarded in 2017)
(4) Stipends to USGA Girls’ Junior qualifiers from Illinois (five girls qualified in 2017)
Founded in 1933, the IWGA has been raising funds to support charitable causes from the beginning. During WWII, the IWGA launched a Victory Tournament initiative to show support for our men and women in uniform. The Victory Fund continues today, and in 2017, we raised over $26,000, bringing our total contributions since our founding to over $1,200,000. More information on the contributions and donations by IWGA are available on our website (https://iwga.org/charitable-activities).
