Hall of Fame 2020

There were two Hall of Fame inductees this year. Salley Wessels from Mt Morris, IL and Char McLear from Minden, NV. The 51st Annual State Senior Women’s Championship was held at Soangetaha Country Club in Galesburg. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, several changes were made to the event and no banquet was held.

Salley Wessels was nominated by DeAnne Stolarik and Char McLear. Salley elected to receive her etched crystal vase award at next year’s event as she wanted her family to be part of her recognition.

2020 Hall of Fame recipient Salley Wessels received her award at the 2021 Senior Championship Banquet held at Pekin Country Club. She was accompanied by her son, brother, sister and two brothers-in-law. Salley won the IWGA State Am in 1997 and is a seven-time IWGA Senior Champion. Dorothy Powell, Gwen Bolster and Cindy Guttridge spoke about the impact Salley has had on women’s golf in the Rockford area. They also talked about her character and the importance of her friendship to so many people. A slideshow featuring her IWGA career was shown. The ceremony ended with the presentation of a crystal vase, flowers and adding her name the Hall of Fame plaque.

Char McLear was nominated by Mo Sheehan, Laura Carson and Mary Ellen Martin. A cocktail party was held on Tuesday evening and Char was recognized via a Zoom meeting with participants. She was presented with her etched crystal vase, which was mailed to her.
