President’s Message

It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as President of The Illinois Women’s Golf Association. IWGA has provided me with wonderful memories and friendships I cherish. At the 2016 Senior banquet, in Champaign, we inducted Sue Young into our Hall of Fame. She entertained us with a delightful story about a comical incident at a senior tournament. She joined the board in 1975 and served as President twice. Sue has set the precedence for leadership, service and commitment. This achievement was noted in an article in GolfwPam Henning_IWGA Preseek, by Rich Skyzinski. We will certainly miss her devotion and leadership and hope she will visit us from time to time.

I often wonder what our founder, Mary Wheeler would think. Would she be pleased with our accomplishments? Are we living up to our mission by conducting quality championships for the women and girls of Illinois?  Are we supporting the many worthy charities seeking our help? I believe she would be proud. We have created a mini grant program which enabled us to reach out to 11 colleges and Illinois universities, financially, to support their needs. We improve our website each year to better serve you. This all volunteer, not for profit board works diligently to maintain the quality of service you deserve. In that spirit, I would like to introduce two new board members, Kim McCormick and Linda Betzelberger of Peoria. I am confident they will be a positive force in meeting the challenges of this board.

The game of golf brings new friends and old friends together. How dull life would be without this wonderful sport.

Wishing you a happy and healthy 2017! Please check our website (www.iwga.org) to find out more about us.

“Time spent with friends on a golf course is time well spent”
